Officer Assaulted By Inmate At Jail Hints At Legal Action
The female corrections officer attacked and sexually assaulted by an inmate at the Duval County Jail is considering legal action.
Investigators said he used a homemade shank to overpower the female officer, a certified paralegal, inside the jail library last April.
The woman claims JSO relaxed the security precautions on a high-risk inmate without following the policy of going before the appropriate committee; failed to frisk or search inmates after leaving cell and before they entered the law library; and permitted Tave to carry a weapon.
The pre-lawsuit filing also accuses JSO of “allowing male inmates with a history of violence and sexual aggression toward women, including inmate Tave, to be placed in areas at the jail where female personnel work alone.”
